Though Martin coined the term, the word "dreadnought" has become a general phrase to describe standard steel string acoustic guitars. They can range in the details: some have cut-aways, some have inlays on the fret board, and they can range in colours from standard browns to blacks to sunbursts. A lot of mellow rock and roll, country and folk are played on acoustics because of their down to earth sound, stripped down sound.The classical guitar is a little different in appearance to the standard acoustic. It has a thicker, usually shorter neck.
